Secondary Future Pathway Planning Events

February-March 2021

 

 

 

West Lothian Council are running a series of online events in February and March 2021 to support pupils in S3 and above and their families in planning next steps with subject choices and careers.

All events will take place over Webex and parents will be able to click the link to register in advance. Each event will offer the opportunity to pose questions in the chat for the presenting team to answer.

Higher Education event: Wednesday 24th February 2021 6.30 pm- 7.30 pm

Our Higher Education event, in partnership with Edinburgh, Stirling and Napier Universities and Lothians Equal Access Programme for Schools (LEAPS) will cover broad topics such as subjects on offer, what it's like to learn at university and wider student life. LEAPS will talk about the support they can offer to help young people to access university study. There will be links to further information and online events as part of this and the opportunity to pose questions.

Further Education event: Wednesday 3rd March 6.30 pm - 7.30 pm

Running in partnership with West Lothian College and Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), representatives from both colleges will speak about the range of pathways and courses they offer as well as what studying at college is like. West Lothian College will discuss the school-college partnership courses available for young people in S3 and above to follow as part of their school curriculum, as well as full and part time courses for school leavers. SRUC will also cover the various opportunities for further education study that they offer. There will be links to further information and online events as part of this and the opportunity to pose questions.

 

Employability event: Thursday 11th March 6.30 pm - 7.30 pm

This event is running in partnership with Skills Development Scotland and is designed for young people who are keen to enter the workplace as their next step after leaving school. We will discuss the partnership approach in West Lothian to supporting young people into a positive destination, the importance of future skills, how young people can start planning for their future career while still at school and who can help with this, and the current and future opportunities in West Lothian and the surrounding area. We will also discuss some West Lothian programmes for school leavers. There will be links to further information and online events as part of this and the opportunity to pose questions.
