National RMPS

Pupils sitting National 4 and National 5 qualifications at Bathgate Academy are taught in a bi-level class. This allows personalisation for pupils and the possibility for pupils to move levels within the RMPS curriculum at National level.

The National qualifications consist of three taught units. As their world religion, pupils study Islam and focus on key concepts, teachings and practices which are vital for Muslims to have a strong relationship with God and reach Paradise. Pupils then discuss current and relevant concepts within their Religion, Medicine and the Human Body unit. This includes IVF, embryo research, Euthanasia and Assisted Dying. Pupils not only interact with difficult and often emotional video clips and case studies but they are able to voice their opinions and beliefs through a range of activities including class debate. Lastly, pupils study Evil and Suffering which helps them tackle concepts of pain in life which not only builds on from their Medicine unit but also encourages them to challenge and tackle the problem of God's existence and omnipotent and omnibenevolent status. The class develop not only their literacy, analysis and evaluation skills that benefit them elsewhere but they are also encouraged to develop their awareness, recognition, empathy and resilience.
