What is Geography?

Geography is the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by the physical environment. Geography is unique in bridging the gap between social sciences (human Geography) and natural sciences (physical Geography). Geography shares many skills with both Science subjects and Humanities subjects.

Why is it important?

Geography is an important subject to help pupils make sense of and understand the world we live in. The topics explored in Geography are relevant to everyday life whether it concerns the weather we experience or the places we live and visit. The study of Geography supports pupils in their reasoning and questioning of the environments we encounter and the role human's play in impacting upon these places.
